High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) is a broad term for workouts that involve short periods of intense exercise alternated with even shorter recovery periods. One of the biggest advantages of HIIT is that you get maximal health benefits in minimal time, so it is a very time efficient way to exercise.

The benefits of HIIT are as follows:

- You burn a lot of calories in a short amount of time.

- Your metabolic rate is higher for much longer than it would be after a pure cardio session.

- It can improve oxygen consumption.

- It can help you burn fat.

- It can help reduce heart rate and blood pressure.

- It can help improve insulin resistance.

- It improves aerobic and anaerobic performance.

Sometimes it's nice to take a deep dive into an area of Yoga, and yoga workshops are the perfect forum.

108 online sun salutations is known as a moving meditation, where each move is linked to the breath. Why 108 many people ask us? The number 108 is sacred and significant in many disciplines. To name but a few, there are 108 pressure points and 108 energy lines in the body, the distance between the Earth and sun is 108 times the diameter of the sun, India is said to have 108 sacred sites and many Buddhist temples have 108 steps representing the 108 steps to enlightenment.

We run 4 events every year leading everyone through 108 Salutations at Summer & Winter Solstice and at Spring & Autumn Equinox.

Yin yoga is a complementary yoga practice to the more dynamic yoga styles that are predominant today. In Yin Yoga, floor postures are held passively for 5 minutes + in order to access a safe 'stress' on the deep layers of connective tissue in the body. Physically, when we hold the stress, our tissues deform, reform and become longer, thicker and stronger. Energetically, we stimulate acupressure points and meridian lines that send energy to our organs. And as this practice emphasises stillness and silence, Yin yoga prepares the mind for deeper experiences in meditation.

Reflexology is a natural therapy that uses the feet as a mirror of the whole body. By massaging and applying pressure to parts of the feet, known as reflex areas, other corresponding and connected areas of the body will feel the benefit. In Reflexology, the feet and hands are like mini-maps of the body's anatomy so any body system can be accessed and stimulated by massaging the corresponding area of the foot or hand. The aim is to stimulate the body's own healing processes in order to keep it in homeostasis, or in a balanced state. It is a holistic therapy which means it works on the principle that the whole person must be treated.

Many people come to me for Reflexology for different reasons...recovering from illness, stress relief, relaxation, the list is endless.

Did you know that reflexology is a complimentary therapy that you can claim back on your health insurance? I am a member of The Irish Reflexologist's Institute meaning my treatments are covered by Laya Healthcare, VHI Healthcare & Irish Life Health.
